We ensure that insights from policymakers inform our work and - in collaboration with our colleagues and external stakeholders - help shape policy guardrails, industry standards, and safe and beneficial development of AI tools. 

About the Role

As the Ireland - Privacy & Consumer Protection Lead, you’ll be executing on our engagement with the policy community across Ireland as well as running our work on privacy and consumer protection across the European Union liaising with policy-makers, Data Protection and Consumer Protection Authorities and civil society organizations. 

OpenAI releases industry-leading research and tools. You will face new challenges as the impact of cutting edge generative AI technologies continues to be explored and as the needs of the organization evolve. Day-to-day work may encompass anything from helping to shape strategic initiatives and policy documents to preparing our leaders for engagements with government officials or representing OpenAI in private and public forums. 

We are looking for a self-directed and creative individual with experience managing relationships with both policymakers and international civil society groups, plus a sophisticated understanding of Data Privacy and Consumer Protection legislative and regulatory issues and processes across the European Union. 

This strategic yet hands-on role will report to the Head of European and Middle East Policy & Partnerships and work closely with key internal and external partners. 

This role is based out of Dublin and will require frequent travel to meet with key stakeholders. We offer relocation assistance to new employees. 

We're looking for a blend of qualifications, including:

  • 10+ years of professional public policy experience 

  • Strong track record and experience in Data Privacy and Consumer Protection policy work on AI across EU Member States and with international policy-makers

  • Proven success in leading policy and public affairs work in Ireland with an established network and credibility within the Irish policy community

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and policy concepts to diverse audiences

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the European Union policy-making system, institutions, and processes, and the key policy issues and debates

  • Track record of effectively working with cross-functional teams, especially legal teams, and aligning a diverse range of internal and external partners
